:: Bio
The percussion seed was first planted in Michael's spirit at the tender age
of eight in a small town in Michigan, where he began taking snare drum lessons.
His skills quickly developed and by the age of thirteen, Michael was given his
first drum set. He loved the drums and practiced diligently, cultivating the
percussion seed. Even at a young age, Michael's talent began to launch him into
the spotlight. By his fifteenth birthday, he was a member of his schools
marching and concert band and the symphony orchestra. He received Interlochen
Solo & Ensemble honors for a drum solo. Others began to notice his talent
and he began playing in local bar bands where most of the band members were “twenty-something’s”
looking out for Mike.
Michael attended Michigan State University majoring in Theory and
Composition. There he was a front man for "Climaxx" an R&B/funk
band. Although he gave up his formal education for the Marine Corps, his love
for music never ceased, joining various bands wherever duty called, in the US
and abroad. He developed his talent for commercial and music production while
working at a local Guam Radio Station (KGUM).
When his military career ended Michael moved to Washington, DC where he began
to develop his musical craft, delving deeper into song writing and music
production. He worked for DC based Showtime Records, where his received credits
on MC Manny Mann's Showtime Records release "Outstanding" in the
1980's. His next job lead him to Wired for Sound Records where he wrote and
produced releases that included dance, house, R&B and soul. Some of his most
recent credits include writing and producing for 1997 "Wammie" nominee
Ingrid Blazer's "Vanity" single and accompanying 1997 "Wammie"
nominated Jeff Aug on drums on his new age CD "In the Breezeway."
In 1992 Michael started is own production company, Dumbluck Productions
giving him more freedom to expand his funkified creative juices. He recorded,
produced and released his own EP entitled "ForeFathers". The CD
features Steve Bundick on
sax and various vocal guests. Michael recently released, “exhale” to
critical acclaim in the fall of 2003 and received 4 “WAMMIE” nominations
from the Washington Area
Musician’s Association. Michael is currently working on several projects
that include Ingrid Blazer's debut CD, expected to release in the fall of 2004.
